No fear Shakespeare!

Dear Mother Nature,

I am sure you are well aware of the reason as to why I am writing. I shall get right to the point. In short, your execution of a consistent pattern concerning weather changes is quite infuriating and I hope to see improvement in your methods. Please write a detailed proposal for your future plans and submit it in both e-mail and hard-copy to me by midnight.

Sincerely,
Piper

Only in Ohio can one feel the dramatic and fluctuating changes of the weather. It’s absolutely crazy as to how we Ohioans can put with such nonsense. Us poor college students are having a rough time deciding between sundresses and t-shirts vs. Northface jackets and UGG boots. It’s the epitome of a tragedy. Shakespeare is probably rolling around in his grave itching to capture our emotions and looks of dismay on paper. “Alas poor Yorick!”
It’s strange how influential the weather is here, it practically decides as to whether or not you are going to have a good or bad day.

Aside from me going on a Colin Firth/Mr. Darcy tangent about the weather and how my family is in good health….

Allow me to share with you some stories and observations from the week.

First off, allow me to enlighten you upon a bad life decision. Never, and I mean NEVER, drink an entire vitamin water bottle (20 FL OZ) and then an entire iced coffee before two 75 minute long classes that are back to back. That is pure torture to one’s bladder. I know what you’re thinking. “Piper, why don’t you just get up and leave during class to go to the restroom?” Well….you know those classes where the professor sits in from of the entire class and lectures, and nobody moves, because if you move or get up, the teacher will stop the lecture and stare at you as you leave. It is as though you are being judged and shunned at once. So I saved myself the scrutiny and sucked it up for as long as I possibly could. Luckily I was able to take advantage of the time between those two classes, so I was saved!
On to a less awkward and embarrassing topic….

Never doubt the abilities of a double English major (which I am). You “other majors” think us English majors have it easy and that all we have to do is read and write essays. In truth, we do, but clearly you don’t understand. Our essays are graded with hard calloused hands that are nit-picky about each and every detail, if you think your essay is solid and descriptive and worthy…to them it is the biggest piece of nonsense they have ever read and needs a better thesis, more support, more quotes, less quotes, word changes, a stronger argument, rephrasing, less adjectives, fragments, explain further, etc, etc, etc. Ink is everywhere, and the worst part is each professor is different in terms of what they like to see in a paper. Adjusting your personal style to those professors can be one of the most frustrating things you have ever done. It feels like each essay is a “guinea pig” essay, testing to see what they like/don’t like about it and what you can improve upon. The point of this rant is to inform you that I, yes I, have made that work pay off. Several of my essays were returned this week and I got pretty decent grades on them. The funniest thing was that in my Psychology class, I got a 26/28 when the majority of the class got MUCH lower grades, and they are Psychology majors. My professor announced to the class at the beginning of the assignment that creative writing and literature majors have the hardest time writing research papers because it’s more scientific and fact based rather than flowery language. Needless to say…. DOUBLE ENGLISH MAJOR FTW!

Last night I also got a chance to take a long walk. I was feeling super extra squirrely and I needed to blow off some steam and just stomp around on some concrete. You know the feeling. Anyway I must have walked the entire perimeter of the campus by the time all was said and done, and I made some very interesting discoveries and I will be sure to take another adventure with my camera to take some pictures!

I am very much looking forward to this weekend, if anything it will be a time to do laundry and relax and merely let go of my thoughts for a bit. Down-time for the Piper.
I hope that everyone gets a chance to experience some sunlight and warmth in their daily lives soon. Spring is here, summer is on its way and it’s coming up fast. Certainly not fast enough!

Enjoy your weekend my lovelies

Like Ducks Do….

My gentle readers,

Mother Nature is having her way with us in this little town…a quiet village…where every day is like the day before….

For two rainy days this week it shall rain, then we shall be rewarded with a gorgeous sunny and warm day towards the end of the week. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE is excited to see that spring is finally creeping its way into our daily lives.

Also, fun fact, I am proud to say that I have finally gotten a pair of rain boots, which will give me the upper hand when it comes to puddles and flooded sidewalks on campus. It’s almost like having little duck feet, so much power to be had by these clever aquatic birds! For the longest time I would get caught in the rain wearing the wrong shoes. Now that I am being more attentive towards the weather, I shall be able to save my feet from some serious cold and wet. And hopefully save my good leather shoes from being soaked for the umpteenth time.

Moral of the story, buy rain boots, as crazy and odd as it sounds these next couple months are infamous for being rainy, if you buy rain boots you too shall be bestowed the power of little duck feet.
Anyway, moving on.

Spring break has come and gone. Lots of fun to be had at home with friends and family, and also relaxing to the point my brain turned to tapioca, but it was definitely worth it. School only lasts for 6-7 more weeks, so this is the last mad dash to the finish line before summer arrives.

It’s actually exciting to be back on campus again. I’m one of those people who enjoys relaxing and not doing anything for about a week, but eventually I absolute have to get my hands on something else I become twitchy and run around the house like mad. So being back on campus and getting into the swing of things is most excellent, and there are several things I was looking forward to…for example:

1. The crazy fashions that all the college girls are deciding to try out now that the weather is in a crazy roller coaster. They can resemble Lady Gaga at times and it’s quite amusing. The majority of what I am seeing is black Northface jackets….A LOT of black Northface jackets.

2. The squeaky clean guys. Their mothers have done a good job of sending them off to the local barber and have made sure that they are trimmed and shaved. Gotta love parental authority and the determination of making their sons not look like they’ve slept in a cave for 5 years.

3. The eager anticipation for sunlight. Sitting in a classroom becomes hilarious, because I get to witness all the people who are practically writhing and wiggling in their seats because the sun is shining and THEY ARE NOT OUTSIDE TO SOAK IT UP! Sure enough, as soon as class lets out, the sun hides behind a veil of clouds and a slur of curse words escape their mouths. Oh the irony.

Things are proceeding rather slowly here in our little college town, but I am definitely looking forward to the weekend, you guessed it, MORE swing dancing! My feet have been getting impatient and desperate. Tomorrow’s regular lesson and the dance this weekend ought to keep me at bay for a while dance-wise. Hurrah!

More fun stories to come, in the meantime keep an eye on that horizon and wait for the sun to come out. It’s there, I promise! It’s just taking it’s good sweet-natured time.

This....is....SPARTA!

Gerard Butler says it all. Tonight is my last hectic night of getting things done in preparation for Spring Break. So I am getting ready to put on my battle armor and charge head first into this war of paper-writing.

After 11:00pm this evening, once my paper is signed sealed delivered all will be well in the world. I am incredibly excited to get an entire week off to just relax and de-stress and re-cooperate after such a stressful series of weeks. Things have definitely improved and have taken a turn for the best. This past weekend was one of the very best, I met some amazing dancers, got to learn some really cool moves, and had some of the best dances I have EVER had. Our swing team got to compete, we placed, and we may not have won but we definitely achieved so much and proved that we could do something amazing. Ever team there did a stellar job. Hurrah everyone!

Class will be starting soon, I fear I must bring this note to a closure. More stories will come! I have quite a few!

Until later,

~Piper
